I will start by saying I am no fluid head connoisseur, but I do know that a good fluid head can make all of the difference. This one certainly does.My infrequent experience with fluid heads comes from one that was included with my first ever basic and cheap tripod. It worked, but it was about as fluid as sand.Interesting points on this fluid head:> You can make your camera vertical, which is all the rage nowadays. It's also very stable in this mode.> The hole on the quick release plate where the screw could normally be removed is protected with a little rubber grommet, so you probably won't lose your screw randomly.> The fluid motion is very nice indeed.> There's a mount point on the side but I can't recall the exact fixing name. It's in my photo and has the ridges surrounding the screw hole.> The panning handle can be swapped so you can have it on the left or the right. This also means the handle is removeable so the unit can be packed away a bit more compact.
