Finally bought this after not being able to force myself to support the Chinese ripping off technology left and right. The simplicity of use is extraordinary, it is surrounded by a rubber boot to dampen shock, range seems good and best of all, it supports ETTL.While not as cheap as the Chinese knock off junk, it is certainly more affordable than the Canon brand name equipment and does everything I need it to. Using it on a 5DMiii, paired with a 600 EX-RT and a 430exii.Works flawlessly!I have just been using the Pixel King units for my Canon 5Dmkii but the picky start up routine really annoys me and sadly has let me down more than once with clients. By that I mean you have to turn each item on in a VERY specific order! Once working the Pixels are very competent and reliable. So I wanted a backup which wasn't picky so I have decided to try these. First impressions are good, I like the rugged exterior which is great for Weddings and on the go shooting. They are sturdy and inspire confidence on a boom or tripod with Umbrella (adding weight). They are truly "plug and play" which is refreshing, now more "what do I turn on first" - thank you!The range is very good, I started getting a few misfires through 2 brick walls (house) at about 15 meters, line of site is easily 30+ So for a Wedding? - perfect! My only issue is that it isnt 100% happy on "rapid fire" and the 5D is only 5/6 FPS in the real world, now this isnt my recharge cycle as I put it on minimum with fresh batteries, so, for Sports multi shot action I am not convinced yet, a firmware update may fix that?Bonus over Pixel is that you can add lots of receivers, nice touch. It has HSS and SCS, why no HSS+SCS? Surely this can be fixed? All in all I would recommend to all but Sports shooters due to the misfires at continuous shooting.I wanted to experiment with off-camera flash and it was a choice between this, a long cable, and a cheap non-TTL wireless trigger. Went for this in the end as I felt that the hassle of cables and the trial-and-error of no TTL would soon become annoying. The fact that it won a Practical Photography 'Gear of the Year' award helped me settle on this. The Hahnel Tuff seems well-made and solidly put together. Very easy to set up and get working - you can't go wrong with the receiver, and the transmitter sits on the camera with the controls facing back. The receiver lies flat and allows a Canon Speedlite 430 EX to be fairly stable standing upright on a flat surface. Or you can screw it on to a standard tripod for more flexibility.Very impressed, even with my very first test shots - until then I hadn't appreciated the opportunities that off-camera flash opened up in terms of creativity and atmosphere, even for a novice.I haven't tested the Hahnel Tuff to its limits on range or continuous shooting, but it does exactly what I wanted.£90 is quite a lot when you're on a tight budget. But to get the most out of an external flash, I'd definitely recommend paying a bit extra for one of these.Opened the box and fitted the supplied batteries. Fitted each unit to my cannon 650D and 430ex2 flash gun. Switched on and it worked with no fiddling or reading the instruction leaflet. The ETTL works fine too. To try it out I placed the flash down the garden about 25 feet away and out of line of site. Worked fine. That's about as far as I will ever use it off camera. I'm pleased with the units and would recommend them for a simple trouble free operation. I have not tried to update them via the PC. I have no need to at present.Update. Following a recent purchase of a Canon 5D MK3 they also work on this Camera as above on the 650. Cant fault these.Bought the trigger and two receiver units 7 months ago, they never worked. Emailed Hahnel, they took them back and replaced with new units. These work just fine, no complaints!I was impressed by the speed and level of after sales service and would certainly recommend the Hahnel products to anyone!I bought this because of the good reviews. I wanted to try off camera flash with a Canon 550ex flashgun. I still think this is an excellent product the problem being the age of the flashgun this product is not compatible with the canon 550ex flashgun.
